Renault 5 Electric Wiki
Renault 5 is back with its modern EV version. The French company received many requests for the revival of this model, and its time has finally come: it will return as an electric vehicle by 2024.
It was one of the most loved models, Renault 5 being the best-selling car in France from 1972 to 1986, its total sales exceeding 5.5 million. It was even sold in the U.S., under the name of LE CAR.
“The design of the Renault 5 Prototype is based on the R5, a cult model of our heritage. This prototype simply embodies modernity, a vehicle relevant to its time: urban, electric, attractive.” – Gilles Vidal, design chief at Renault.
It’s an all-electric 5-door supermini car, and it will use the same technology as the ZOE, so we may expect a 50kWh battery pack, a range of 245 miles, and a recharging speed of 50kW. There will be available two engine powers: 108bhp or 132bhp.
Renault 5 Price
This French supermini will be available starting from £18,500. The price may seem low, but that is due to the CMF-BEV platform that uses an interchangeable battery module. This means it can be easily used on various models with low extra-costs.
Renault 5 Release Date
By 2025 Renault intends to launch 7 electric models, Renault 5 being one of them. As it uses the electric train from actual Zoe, the launch date may be an year earlier – 2014.
Its dimensions are not available for the moment.
