Do you wonder where all this viral morning salute came from? So did we! And we found out. It all started from the legendary Eddie Murphy, who created an original story back in the 80s that came to life in the movie Coming to America, from 1988. Obviously, he also had the lead role in this movie.
Now, more than 30 years later, his line “Good Morning My Neighbors” was rediscovered by teens and grown-ups all over the world on TikTok, Youtube and Instagram and became a hit overnight.
Let’s see if TikTokers nowadays manage to be as fun as Eddie. Please watch the original line here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WL15eTRcAsg
The film was directed by John Landis and co-stars Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Shari Headley, and John Amos. The first installment in the Coming to America film series, it was released in the United States on June 29, 1988. Eddie Murphy plays Akeem Joffer, the crown prince of the fictional African nation of Zamunda, who travels to the United States in the hopes of finding a woman he can marry.
In 1989, a pilot for a planned spin-off television series was made, although this was never picked up for a series. A sequel, Coming 2 America, is scheduled for release on March 5, 2021.
